During a new entrant learning course, trainees can expect to undertake a series of exams and practical assessments that are intended to satisfy instructors that all aspects of the learning are being fully understood.

Once a trainee has completed this initial stage of learning, they will be required to demonstrate that they are able to perform work under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Candidates will need to prove their ability by recording their progress in a portfolio which will be gathered and certified by a Gas Safe Engineer as this will show their competence in real life situations.

Working with a centre's sister company is particularly ideal as the engineers will now what it takes to build a successful portfolio and what is required by assessors to complete the learning process.

Once a trainee engineer has completed their portfolio, they will need to return to their chosen training centre in order to achieve the appropriate award in (ACS): CCN1(Core Gas Safety) and Appliances.

Training to become a fully qualified gas safe registered engineer is quite costly and can run into thousands of pounds which is a worthwhile investment that can be paid back once employment is secured.

Some centres are able to provide a flexible payment system that allows trainees to pay as they train so that they do not have to part with a large lump sum before commencing learning.
