Two people cannot study the same way, and what works for one person may not be applicable to another. Nevertheless, there are some general methods that seem to give satisfactory results. Everyone is born different, and for some people, the enthusiasm for studying and learning comes naturally. If yours do not come naturally, you are probably not one of them, but take heart, there is hope. Your success in school depends not on the level of your motivation to study, but on your ability to study efficiently and effectively. Poor studying habits often lead to time wastage, frustration and poor grades.

There is no laid down strategic plan that a student can use to guarantee him better grades. All you need to do is to change a few of your habits that might be jeopardizing your road to success. Being successful in academics is not just a matter of reading a book for many hours. You really have to wok smart, not hard in order to actually meet your goals of getting good grades. As a student, you also need to make some efforts and consider the following tips listed below.

If you want to understand a new topic quickly, first thing you need to do is familiarizing yourself with the topic before the teacher comes to class. Whatever topic is about to be taught, read and prepare yourself so that you may be able to answer any question the teacher may ask. This will help you appear as one of the brilliant students which will help to motivate you and boost your self esteem. This will also make you feel confident while responding to the teacher's questions. While early preparation will increase your confidence in class, this habit will as well have a great impact in your academic performance.

Many students waste a lot of time doing homework. Do not wait to do your assignment at home. It is far much better to complete your assignment at school if possible. The sooner you complete your homework, the more you will have ample time to plan for your studies at home. When you will finish your home assignment earlier you will get some spare time to spend in other activities like sports.

Try to find friends in your class who are serious with their studies and form a group. A study group is essential for you will learn new skills from each other. You will also be in position to get everything you missed while the teacher was teaching in class. Study group will give room to all the participants to express their opinion and share ideas about the topic that is being discussed at that moment. This will provide a wider vision for every subject to each member of the group.

Finally, it is important to have a tendency of taking short notes in class. Class notes are very important in passing any assessment examination. Most teachers oftentimes use their class lectures while setting exam papers. However, do not write everything that the teacher is saying. Write down the key things in point form, so that when you sit to revise for an exam, you will not have a hard time of going through many notes.

Learning skills and understanding are two different things. Learning skills involve a lot of regular studies. It is not enough to just sit back and study a topic; one actually has to do it in practice form. This is the key idea of this article. All that follows relies on this notion. There is an old saying that says: "Practice makes perfect."
