What Is The Best Type Of Resume Writing Format To Use For Writing Your Resume?

Are you going to be writing your own resume very soon? Before you start, it is imperative to know the types of resume writing format that should be used.

Not every employer will want the same format, so understanding the various types will help you choose the type that you need to use for applying for a particular job. There are three basic format types that you can choose from, which are below.

1. Chronological format - This is the type used to show how much your career and advancement has grown. Employers like this type of format because it makes the resume very easy to read and it can be quickly looked at for your employment history.

This is the most popular type of format used in writing resumes and it is the most popular with many employers.

2. Functional format - This format type is commonly used for presenting your qualifications, key skills and accomplishments, which is shown at the top of your resume. This format type is not going to focus on your employment history, which will still be given in the resume, but it will be at the bottom of it and not the top.

Plus, your work history will be more like a listing and not showing the details for each job position. Basically, this type focuses on what you have done and not on where or when you achieved it.

Not every employer likes this type of format because to many of them it shows that a person has some deficiency in their work history, so be cautious when using this type and always make sure it is what the employer wants before you do use it.

3. Combination format - This is what you get when the chronological and functional formats are combined into one format. This type will start with a summary of your skills, qualifications, achievements, abilities and on where you want to be with your career, which is found to be used in the functional format.

Then your work history will be shown and written in chronological format to support the statements you made in the summary. This format is widely accepted by most employers for most types of jobs.

If you are still unsure of the type of format to use, then take time to look at job specific samples or templates to help you choose. You can also just ask the employer what type they prefer so you are completely confident that you are using the correct format.

With this information in mind about the resume writing format types, you are better prepared for beginning the process of writing your own impressive resume. Just make sure you take time and really check into the formats for yourself so you are confident about the type to use that will help you get the job you really want.
