Digital Photography Guide

In the past few years digital cameras have become very popular. There are many options when it comes to choosing the right camera, for instance you can buy the inexpensive point-and-shoot and also the high-end DSLRs.

To make the most out of these cameras some basic knowledge will go a long way.

For the newbie when they get one of these cameras they often feel overwhelmed with the amount of technical technologies that they may have to understand.

Although these features maybe a bit confusing for the newbie at first it is well worth understanding them.

Consider this your guide to some functions of the digital camera that you may not have know, namely ISO,Aperture, and shutter speed. We will cover those three in this article.

ISO

This is known as "film speed", the camera's light sensitivity is called ISO. You see, digital cameras have an adjustable ISO and you can tweak the settings up or down.

Of course the higher you go the more brightness you will get. Sensor quality and noise reduction processing affects the maximum ISO. So cameras with an ISO of at least 1000 will make it possible to shoot pictures under low light conditions.

Aperture

Basically aperture is the measure for the lens of the camera's opening "the diameter". The lens has the capability to reduce the amount of light though the use of a diaphragm. With the camera controls the diaphragm can be retraced or extended.

When you pull back the diaphragm it will increase the light in the image. With these controls you will be able to constrict the incoming light when taking a pictures.

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is important factor if you want high quality pictures. It will allow you to control how long the camera lets in light. The camera's shutter speed might be in fractions.

For instance if your camera has a shutter speed of 1/125, it means an open shutter of although of a second. The higher the shutter speed the less time periods are captured by the camera.

This will be a bonus to you if you love to capture action shots with your camera, this will help reduce blur in the camera when taking shots.

So what is the secret to getting all these three factors working together? Well there are some basic principles that you need to know and apply.

For instance, to determine clarity and Sharpness of your images, you will need to look at the amount of light available in your chosen location. If your going to shoot in darker settings then you will need a higher ISO camera.

Additional Tips

If you find that you have shaky hands then a tripod will come in handy for you to use because it will stabilize your shots for you. If you want to tweak your settings that is good, but also don't forget that lens sharpness is equally important if you want good pictures. The performance of your lens will often vary in aperture and zoom level. Some lenses on the market are at f/4,f1.8 and f/1.4.

Another important factor to consider is the sensor size of your camera. The bigger the sensor the better output your going to get. Before pulling money out of your pocket take a look around and compare sensors.

The zoom tool will make it easier to move closer to your subject. For instance, if you want to get as close as 280mm, then you will need a 28mm camera with at least 10x zoom.

When your using a zoom this tends to make your shot very unstable. You may even compromise the quality of your image using the zoom, so its best not to use this all the time only when it's necessary.

If you want more information on digital photography, you can do a search on the internet, attend some classes and workshops which you will be able to learn from the experts themselves.

Whatever you choose to do, you will be sharpening your skills to be a successful photographer in no time at all.
