Is PTLLS Training An Easy Route In To Adult Education?

The UK recession has led to widespread unemployment and has left many people needing to rethink their future career path. However the education system as ever remains fairly steady, leading to widespread opportunities in the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning (PTLLS) sector. Adult education is a much easier route into this industry, which has led to thousands of people signing up to PTLLS training courses in a bid to start a new career.

The current recession has even affected those who are vastly experienced and who have been in steady jobs for decades. Many people have suddenly found themselves unable to find work, despite having many years of experience in their chosen industries. Redundancies for some can be devastating, but others may look to them as a way of starting afresh. In recent years many people have decided to transfer their own experiences to the classroom, and have subsequently become freelance teachers / trainers. The free time associated with redundancies can be used to enrol on teacher trainer courses that can open up a new career path.

In order to teach in the adult sector (post 16) it is requirement that you complete a four day teacher training course. The time is typically spent in a classroom setting where the ways of the industry are taught through experienced teachers. The four days are spent learning the key theoretical aspects of teaching, with plenty of time puts aside to writing lesson plans. This theory is then put into practice on the final day when students have the opportunity to present a 15 minute micro lesson to their peers. This enables everyone to experience what it is like to teach a short lesson to a group, and should stand them in good stead when they enter the industry.

There are many routes into the world of adult education when a student becomes qualified through a recognised training course. Many people become freelance instructors on their specialist subject area. This means they enjoy the benefits of becoming self-employed and attach themselves to many different companies. It is easy to build up a good reputation if you are reliable, which can lead to widespread opportunities right throughout the country. Others find themselves seeking a full time post at a college, training centre or company. Opportunities like this pop up all the time, and can help people get a step on a new career ladder.

Becoming qualified to teach children is costly, time consuming and can sometimes be simply impractical. PTLLS training courses however are notoriously cost efficient. The money spent on such training can be recuperated in just a couple of months when qualified. Alongside this they only require people to take four days out of their busy schedules. This is crucial as it means that it is possible to remain at work whilst studying for a change in career. It also suits those with family's, who are no longer able to lead the student lifestyle.

As discussed the main format is a four day block of classroom based teaching. However this is made more flexible by a range of distance learning options, which sometimes only require the student to attend the final day's micro lesson. This could be of benefit for those who lead extremely busy schedules or who have no spare time to attend the classroom sessions. The marketplace also appears to offer courses that are spread over multiple weekends. In theory this means that any budding teacher can remain in their nine to five role and gain the qualification in their spare time.
