What Is AVETMISS? Get To Know The Facts Here

AVETMISS is short for the Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard. This is the standard that will ensure the consistent and the accurate capture and reporting of trainee or student's information. A standard is needed to ensure that there is adequate data gathered for students to strengthen the requirements of the VET sector.AVETMISS is short for the Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard. This is the standard that will ensure the consistent and the accurate capture and reporting of trainee or student's information. A standard is needed to ensure that there is adequate data gathered for students to strengthen the requirements of the VET sector.

RTOs or registered training organizations are required to adapt to an AVETMISS-compliant record management system. The Australian Quality Training Framework or AQTF, that aims to strengthen requirements for the regulation of VET and training organizations, has guidelines regarding initial registration and for on-going registration requirements and one of this is to follow a record management system that is compliant with AVETMISS to totally protect and manage student data.

The most common pieces of information that have to be collected to students are all about their identity like their full name, age, gender, indigenous or disability information and their geographic location which is based from the time the student is enrolled. There may be more questions that a training organization may need to ask their students and they can add these along at this section.

Other important information is all about where the student studies. Information asked is their type of education or training provider (whether government or private) and the location of the training facility. Finally, information regarding what students have studied like their units of competency (to determine the qualification of training organizations), how their training was accomplished (it may be through a classroom setting, online training or training in the workplace) and how their training was funded.

Two important information which will be provided by RTOs are the results of the modules or units that the student has underwent and when the qualification certification or parchment was issued. These are determined after the training is over and data is stored in the AVETMISS -compliant student management system.

It's very important that vocational education and training sectors comply with AVETMISS regulations. RTOs need to use a student records management system that is able to store and export student data that has been discussed in the standards of AVETMISS. Compliance to this rule may be checked using free software provided by NCVER. This validation software is available online.

Useful information on how to procure an AVETMISS-compliant information system:

a) RTOs are required to comply with this regulation however there is no need to buy software. b) If there is already a system that manages student information then it must be assessed to comply with industry's standards. c) If RTOs cannot afford a commercially-available AVETMISS compliant student information management system, their available options may be discussed.
