What You Need To Know About AVETMISS Standards

AVETMISS standards are the important provisions of the Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standards. The AVETMISS is all about making sure that students or trainees' data that are collected whilst training at various RTOs are adequate and are safe using an AVETMISS-compliant student data management system.

Here are some important standards of AVETMISS which must be complied by RTOs:

a) Only information needed for training must be taken by RTOs and this includes the student's personal information (name, age, gender and his geographical location), information about his training provider (the name, the method whether classroom, online or through an on-site training) and information about the outcome of the training and the issuance of the parchment which means the date of completion of training. All of these must be entered in the student's data information system.

b) RTOs submit AVETMISS data to the National VET Provider Collection before the designated due date advised by the State Training Authority; the data will be included into the Competency Completion On-Line System. This means that students who have passed training will have recognized competencies from state to state improving the quality of training of students.

c) RTOs must comply with regulations and use an AVETMISS-compliant student record management system to improve the standards of registration and data collection; this is also important to improve data collection for on-going registration and for the issuance of fees.

d) The AQTF under Condition 6 has required Registered Training Organizations to have a compliant student records management system. Compliance may be checked using AVETMISS compliance validation software that may be accessed online through http://www.ncver.edu.au/AVETMISS/21058.html.

e) Based on AVETMISS standards, RTOs do not need to purchase a data management system to comply; if they have a student data management system in use then this may be used, provided it complies with standards of relevant state or territory training organization or authority.

f) The data management system must be based on the business needs of the RTO and must of course be relevant according to the requirements of the state or territory where the RTO is located. If an RTO cannot afford to purchase a data management system, his options may be discussed with a suitable company that offers this business solution.

There are still more important information regarding AVETMISS standards but possibly the most important thing of all is that RTOs may be able to find help to determine the ideal student data or information management system to use. If an RTO is new to the business and have never had any data management system used for their company then it is important to seek professional help right away.

Many have been in the business as providers of AQTF 2010 and AVETMISS compliant training management system which uses a Microsoft.NET system and an SQL Server 2008 framework. With their technology and solutions tailor made for RTOs there will never be compliance issues with AVETMISS standards; you will be able to provide the most suitable service for your students and trainees.
