Five Things To Remember When Studying For The CPA Exam

You've spent your life driving towards that great job, a huge salary and prestige. You've got your degree, obtained an education, and are ready for your career. The only thing standing in your way is studying for the CPA exam and making sure you pass it.

So, how do you do that?

1. Use the right study materials. CPA study guides are a must-have. It is worth every cent you spend on a reputable CPA study course, such as Wiley, Becker, Roger, or Yeager. Although the price may seem daunting, purchasing a study guide is a small investment to make for successfully passing the CPA exam. Once you've made this significant purchase, put it to good use. The only thing worse than not buying a study guide is not using a study guide that you've already bought. Follow the instructions, and pave the way for smooth sailing during test time.

2. Develop a study schedule, and follow it with desperate, maniacal, die-hard devotion. Using a tool as simple as your personal calendar, plot out a study schedule for yourself. After scheduling your test date with NASBA, you want to fill every available minute with CPA study. Block out time in the evening and make sure you eliminate distractions such as a social life so you don't procrastinate. The best preparation begins in earnest six months before the test date.

3. Spot your problem spots. As you're preparing you'll want to make sure you note the areas where you're having problems. The areas that give you problems during study will also give you problems during the test. You will want to concentrate on those areas so you'll make sure they're easy come test time.

4. Practice, practice, practice. Not to sound cliché, but practice is critical. You already know, in general, what's going to be on the exam. That means to be a success, you need to practice solving the problems repetitively so you know you're confident that you can cope with the exam. Plan to take several official practice tests, and use each one as an opportunity to identify weak knowledge areas.

5. Eat well, sleep well, live well. Study alone won't allow you to pass the test. If you are a sleep-deprived, junk-food fed, stressed-out jumble of nerves on test day, you're going to fail. As much as possible, eat healthy, get sufficient sleep, exercise regularly, and remove unnecessary stress from your life. Being prepared means a lot more than simply reading words on a page.

Studying for the CPA exam is grueling, but passing it is glorious. If you follow these tips your chances of success will increase in ways you won't believe.
