No matter how great you are, no matter how accomplished, there are millions of eager recent graduates out there trying to make it big as professional singers. To pay the bills in the interim, many are turning to singing because there are plenty of jobs in that. So, if you are doing this, there are 4 things your students will likely come to you for.
Vocal Vibrato
Blues and jazz singers are particularly well known for singing vocal vibrato. It's that sexy, alluring shaky sound we love so much in their music. The truth is not everybody can pull this off. Gender, age and even race affect one's vocal chords and their ability to do this. However, you'll be approached by many students asking to learn this. So, just tell them ahead of time that they may have disadvantages working against them, and might have to work harder than others. Don't let them lose patience. Anyone can pull it off eventually.
Singing high notes
This can be very difficult. Someone might have a beautiful and highly pleasant voice when singing reachable keys, but singing high notes is something else. Since you have a lot of people trying out for reality shows like American Idol and such, a lot of them have to be able to hit these notes. There are certainly singers who cannot sing high notes for their life and still became popular because their sound was so unique and pleasing but, when audition for these shows, you need to be able to hit the high notes.
Stage fright
You may have very accomplished singers come to you who just want to learn how to get their stage fright under control. Phenomenal singers who should be out there performing sometimes never hit the stage because of their stage fright. Study up on methods to handle stage fright before you start teaching because, even if it's not your area of expertise, you're going to be asked about it. Something you probably already know about is breathing exercises for singing. Believe it or not, aside from helping improve the quality of one's voice, it can be very relaxing.
Taking care of one's voice
You'll also have students who have undergone injuries, illnesses or just incidents that have harmed their voice. They're going to ask you about methods to take care of their voice, maintain it's quality and strengthen their vocal chords so that they can perform their entire lives. So, this is another thing you'll want to study up on before teaching.
