Good Study Skills Are Crucial For College Students

Navigating your way through college has enough challenges such as being indecisive about your major and paying bills. Not having good study skills for college students just makes university life even more complicated, if not downright unbearable.

Most college students know that studying well really helps to keep the stress level down while going to school. However, most students also think that being able to do this is unattainable and that constant struggle is the natural way of things.

A more accurate perception about studying is that is a learnable skill. It is just a matter of knowing where to go.

Freshmen show up at university with what they already have. They bring their grades, experiences and study methods. Because of their abilities, many students developed ways to study that worked fine in high school but are not sufficient for the rigors of university classes.

High school type study skills and performing well in university level classes are not a good combination. It will take a new set of study habits that will work for college students who want to make the most of their academics in the university. Otherwise, those old ways of studying will be a non-stop burden.

Not only are university classes of a higher quality than high school courses, they also move at a different pace. The expectations of instructors are also at a higher level than what students experienced in high school. Improving how you study during all of this is a monumental task for a lot of college students.

Think of it this way. Say a student runs competitivelyin high school and is very good relative to the competition. However, her superior performance is due to her natural talent and not because of how diligent she trains.

The track runner who normally ends up first across the finish line is not the first to begin training. Instead she started first in talent and has used that advantage ever since.

The top notch runner now goes to college to compete and sees that things are different. Now the competition has her talent, too, and her standings begin to fall off from what she is used to knowing.

The runner knows that she must train better, but when? The competitions take place every week, so there's no clear chance to reset her training habits. She still relies upon the mediocre practice habits because that is all she's got.

What does she need? She needs help. She needs a coach.

Training for track in college is like studying for university classes. Some coaching can really accelerate the improvement process.
