Improve Your Reading

When children or teen-agers have difficulties in reading, this can be corrected if it is identified correctly. There is no need to suffer for years with this problem, there is no need to have bad grades because of reading difficulties.

To give your child the best chance at reading well, have a professional check to see if there is a problem. A reading guide or a reading program is the best thing for improvement. A professional can check for problems or habits that will later create problem traits. Problems like not seeing words correclty or sound patterns that come out wrong at just a few of the problems.

Children's parents are offen the first to notice problems with reading. While it is best not to be concerned to much at kindergarden level, most children should acheive a certain level by grades one or two. You can have your child tested by an independant company or some schools offer testing.

If your child's difficulties persist do get them tested because early identification of specific reading challenges, called dyslexia (when grouped together), can really help everyone involved; child, parent and teacher. Be persistent when requesting testing because an early diagnosis can save you significant grief and your child, loss of self-esteem.

A plan should be activated for each child. This plan should involve parents, teachers, students, and all involved. Having scores and written charts, monthly or weekly meeting will greatly help the improvement of the child's progress. Children should be encourged to help plan and keep scores of the reading improvement plan.

Children are reliefed when they have their reading problem diagnosed. These children know that their reading is not the same as their friends. When the plan comes together and goals are reached, the child's ability and confidance improves.

One of the best kept secrets to reading improvement and comprehension improvement is to read out loud. This will help your brain see the words and your ears hear the words. Your brain will take in the information twice. Try it. Some people cannot retain information from reading the words alone but when they read the words aloud they can retain what they hear.

Read into a tape recorder and listen to it while you are doing other things. This trick will help you pick up parts that you didn't remember reading and will help with your study skills.
