For Students: Learn Study Techniques You Will Find Very Useful At School

For students to learn study techniques excluding the usual ones, they only need to explore the opportunities available around the campus. Such strategies applicable for high school and undergraduate students will be presented in this article.

Sometimes, simple things like this - the need to learn study techniques - is the most relevant and that requires your focused attention. Take for example note taking in a class. No matter what type of class you are in, may it be experimentation in a lab or lecture in a class, you should pay attention. No matter what the teacher shared must be noted. This practice ensures you won't miss those significant details so a dedicated notebook for each topic or subject is highly suggested to stay organized. To bring the best out of your notes, you should outline what you need and use a separate colored pen for new concepts or words.

Focused attention and class participation are considered to be an essential part to learn study techniques that would help you all throughout your stay at school. This is where the learning starts. Be attentive on group discussion and professors' lecture which will help you know more about the topic discussed. You need to focus on getting all of your questions answered.

Notes can be an aid to recall 60% of the lectures taken within 24 hours. Reviewing your notes just after you jot them down is another way to learn study techniques. You can also apply this strategy together with other techniques like SQ3R or PQRST method. With only five steps you do one after another, the PQRST method can help and the steps you need to remember are Preview, Question, Read, Self-Recitation, and Test. The first phase will help you get used with the handout material. Question on the other hand will help you get the answers. Read to get clarifications and answers. Say the answers out loud as you find them. After you find all of your answers you should do the final step and test your ability to remember. Commit yourself with these steps and your ability to recall things will surely improve.

Similar to the PQRST, the SQ3R is a 5 step process to improve your studying. First, you need to survey the material and look over the heading and sub-headings. Write down questions related to it. Then you actively read looking to find the answers. Then recite the relevant details you encounter. And finally, review the number two to four steps to check if you fully understand what you've read.

One of the well known learn study techniques is mnemonics. This can help you remember the information you need while working with patterns of words and rhymes. Acrostics and acronyms are its main types. To further enhance your ability to recall things, use the first letter of the multiple study pieces, like great lakes names. For example, Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior or HOMES that represents the names of the great lakes.

The other option is acrostics. You can keep the order of your material in a specific order. Below is a sample of planet order under mnemonic. You can easily recognize the planet with the least distance from the sun is Mercury and the one with the most distance from the sun is Neptune.

The above strategies were used by students for several years now which helped them level up their grades and increase their recall ability. Simply put, they work.
