Studying at the University of Paris, Sorbonne

HISTORY: The University of Paris, Sorbonne (Paris IV) was one of the first universities to be established in the world. The old Sorbonne started in 1253 as a school of theology. Located in the Latin Quarter in Paris, this university focuses on Literature, Languages, Civilizations, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Its website states, "The Sorbonne incites its students to think freely, to construct their own judgment, so that they can become responsible and inventive citizens who can promote dignity and peace culture."

With French language courses, placement tests are given to determine level of ability. Cultural activities are included for high intermediate and advanced students taught in French. Course topics include: history, politics, literature, philosophy, sociology, music, art and geography. Elective course descriptions are available when you arrive. CSA provides an extensive list of Paris student housing links when you successfully apply for a course. Many students stay in residence halls nearby (Foyers), in student flats, and hostels. CSA can also arrange for you to stay in host family housing. Accommodation in Paris is generally expensive.

PASSPORT: A valid passport is required. You don't need a Visa if staying for less than three months on a tourist visa. If staying for more than three months, you'll need a visa before arriving in France. A 'letter of admission' is available from CSA when you register and pay. It is the student's responsibility to apply for a Visa at the nearest French Consulate. Visa fee approx. $60.

ARRIVAL: It's suggested you arrive in Paris one week before the course begins. The level test needs to be taken before classes begin.
