Boost Your Memory Power With These Tips

Wouldn't you like to have a better memory? There are ways to increase the power of your memory. Lets take a look at some of the simple ways we can improve our memory.

Tips To Help Improve Your Memory

Exercise

Getting in a regular workout will help keep your mind fresh. Exercising helps improve blood flow throughout the body and all of your systems, the brain included. If you aren't getting an adequate supply of oxygen to the brain then it ceases to function at its most efficient state. So getting in some extra exercise is good for you both physically and mentally.

Eat Healthy Meals To Boost Your Brain

Considering your diet has to be included in your quest for good brain power. You have to eat foods that power your body as well as the mind. Incorporate plenty of vegetables and fruits. They have antioxidants that help to protect the cells in your brain. Some examples of foods high in antioxidants include water melon, apples, spinach, pomegranates, and avocados.

Reduce Calories And Saturated Fats

The amount of calories that you eat in a day and the amount of saturated fats that are consumed can affect concentration and memory. Foods like red meat, cheeses, and butter are high in saturated fat and should be limited. A healthy balance of calories and saturated fat would be beneficial to improve memory and thinking power.

Consuming Foods With Omega 3 Fatty Acid

Omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to increase memory power so you should incorporate them into your diet. Foods like cold water fish, flax seeds, soya beans, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts have a good amount of omega 3s.

Try To Avoid Stress

Living a stress free life is another way of ensuring constant increase in memory power. Due to stress you are likely to develop major depression, anxiety, high blood pressure and chronic pain. All these are unhealthy for the brain. Depression especially interferes with cognitive strengths of the brain and should be completely avoided. For instance you will find difficulty concentrating or paying attention to detail, recalling events and making choices. As a result your memory power reduces and you become more and more sluggish.

Using Mnemonic Devices

Mnemonic devices are known to improve memory by associating things with words, sentences, and/or pictures. It acts as a kind of hint that triggers the brain to remember something easily. You can even come up with rhymes and songs to help you recall information. These are all just tools to help jog your memory.

Practice, Practice, Practice To Avoid Cramming

When you try to cram a bunch of information into your memory over a short period it usually doesn't work very well. That is because you haven't actually used that information and put it into practice yet. When you cram it is likely that most of the information is only in the short term memory and lost relatively quickly, there for you should practice something over and over until it sticks and is stored into your long term memory.

In conclusion, do not let your memory grow old with you. Stay active and ensure you are in a stimulated environment. Sharpen your memory with the above mentioned methods to increase memory power even as you age.
